Bring on the comments (registration is no longer required)!

Monday, June 23rd, 2008

We used to require registration before you could leave any sort of comments on posts/articles at all here. This has changed; we look forward to hearing more from all of you!

Comments will still be moderated to prevent spam from appearing–so a comment will only appear after a short delay once we’ve had a chance to make sure it’s legit–but you no longer need to register or set up an account to participate.

You’re still entirely welcome to register an account here, of course, but it’s absolutely no longer required.

We really hope that any of you that have been hesitant to post comments will now take a moment to participate in articles and posts and other news or tidbits we post here. We’re excited to open things up a little bit, and we’re hoping this leads to good discussion and feedback. Thank you!

What He’s Saying, and How He’s Looking

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

We started a separate "Benjamin’s Words" page many, many months ago to keep track of the words Benjamin’s learning, and, well, he started picking up words faster than we could record them. That page ended up being (more than) a bit neglected because he was picking up words and doing other things faster than we could record them.

We’d like to try again. To that end, we’ve updated the page and we’re going to try and continue to update it with a bit more regularity.

We’re also working on the pictures thing. Still. Alex has in no way been satisfiedBenjamin loves State-Fair cream puffs! with the various photo solutions, so there’s a mix of different things here and there that we’ve tried (won’t bore you with the technical details), and you’ll likely see a few more as we move forward. Bear with us, and just take the pictures any way you can get ‘em for now, OK? ;)

ALSO, PLEASE HELP US: If you interact with Benjamin and have heard a word or phrase that’s not listed on his Words page, let us know! If you have any pictures of Benjamin (or any of his relatives!) that you think would be great to have posted here on the website, that would be great too! Benjamin loves it when we read posts here to him about things he’s done, places he’s been, people he’s visited, etc, and he loves the (so very few so far) pictures we’ve posted.

We really do want to create as thorough a record of his life with words and pictures as we can, so we have memories for ourselves and for him…and for you, too. Any contribution(s) you make to this effort would be very much appreciated by all of us here! :)

Quick Test Post from WLWbeta3

Thursday, September 6th, 2007

Benjamin and Dad at Disney This is just a quick test post from Windows Live Writer beta 3. I’m trying to make it easier for us (well, me, but hopefully, if this gets simplified a bit more, us…) to get content (including pictures, of course…) onto the site. Not sure if this will help, but I’m kicking the tires on it to see.

If you have any ideas or suggestions (other than "more pictures!" ;) ) let us know!

Well, it looks like the test was pretty successful. WLW is shaping up to be a decent offline editor, easy to use, format, add pictures… Maybe we can get Mom to start posting here more now?

Benjamin’s new sibling…gender finally revealed!

Sunday, May 27th, 2007

We were in Minnesota over the weekend for Amanda’s graduation gathering (congrats again, Amanda!), and we realized while we were there that it would be a perfect time to announce the sex of Benjamin’s soon-to-be-sibling to Stacey’s Dad’s side of the family, in person. We really only get to see that side of the family once or twice a year, so this was a great chance for us.

Benjamin will be an older brother to a younger brother. In other words, we’re expecting a boy! (Coming in September!)

So if you didn’t know already, now you do. ;)

Since we were camping the rest of the weekend, and Stacey’s Mom’s parents were there, too, we were also able to tell them in person. This past weekend turned into great timing all around for us.

We don’t have a name picked out yet. Figuring out Benjamin’s name took us a very long time, and this new baby’s name will be no different, we suspect, but we do have a couple of early ideas…

Thanks for bearing with us with this website lately, too. We have a bunch of stuff to add, but it’s been a very busy spring/early summer so far. Bottom line: Benjamin’s doing great!

Another site update

The software that runs this site was updated today. You shouldn’t notice any changes or problems. If you find something odd or not working, please let us know.

Another way to keep up with Benjamin…

Tuesday, September 26th, 2006

Just experimenting with another way to keep up with the latest Benjamin news…

Lots of people have the Google Toolbar installed in their browser these days. I’ve created a very simple button that lives on that toolbar that you can use to keep current on the latest happenings; it updates itself automatically, in fact…you don’t need to do anything. If you don’t have Google’s Toolbar installed, consider it; it’s pretty darn handy for a lot of things.

[Note: This only works with Internet Explorer.... Sorry Firefox and Opera, etc. users.]

If you’re interested, click here:

Add the benjaminfalkenberg.com Google Toolbar button!

The icon that ends up sitting in the toolbar is a small picture of Benjamin, too… Bonus! ;)

Again, this toolbar button is made to work with Google’s Toolbar, so you need to have that for this button to work…

Of course, the regular RSS/feed link–found at the bottom of the pretty much every page on this site–continues to exist for those of you with RSS/feed readers… Enjoy! :)
