Benjamin's first bath in a regular bathtub was on July 29th, 2006. No more kitchen sink/baby tub!

We first noticed Benjamin being able to play "peekaboo" around the 10th of August, 2006.

Benjamin climbed the entire flight of stairs in our house for the very first time--from bottom to top, quite effortlessly--on October 3rd, 2006. Mom and Dad were stunned!

Benjamin turned 1 year old on February 20th, 2007, exactly one year after he was born. ;)

Benjamin started wearing number 4 diapers during the week of 05 February 2007.

Benjamin had his first brownie/"cake" for his birthday, on 20 February 2007. It was covered in cocoa buttercream frosting. He kinda liked the brownie, but wasn't wild about the frosting... too sweet, we think.

Benjamin drew a simple scribbly drawing--his first art!--on a magnetic sketchboard for the very first time on his birthday, February 20, 2007.

Benjamin got his first haircut on his first birthday, February 20th, 2007. He was polite and well-behaved, and didn't cry or squirm at all.

Benjamin drank, expertly, from a straw for the first time on Sunday, 18 February 2007. Unfortunately, it was from Stacey's chocolate chip frappucino...but whatcha gonna do? In the days following, he proved it was no fluke, and can drink very easily from a straw.

Benjamin's first surgery and stitches were both on April 19th, 2007. He had an outpatient frenulectomy done to correct his tongue-tied tongue, and received a single stitch underneath it to help everything heal better.

We had our first ultrasound for Baby #2 on 23 April 2007. Everything looked good, and he looks great!

Benjamin started playing peekaboo all by himself, covering his own eyes, or his parents' eyes, all by himself, on 21 April 2007. He's hilarious!

Mom and Dad assembled Benjamin's first toddler bed on Sunday, 29 April 2007. It's ready to go whenever he is (no signs yet as of the assembly date!).

We thought Benjamin was having trouble after his 22 April 2007 frenulectomy, but it turns out he was teething molars! We had no idea! Doh!

Benjamin made his first #2 in a toddler potty on 27 June 2007, at 16 months and 7 days old. We were all very proud and excited!

Middle of June 2007, Benjamin showed us his great forking skills, mastering the ability to not only spear or scoop food with a fork or spoon, but also make it into his mouth.

As of summer 2007, when Benjamin says "this" he usually wants whatever it is. When he says "that", he wants to know what that thing is.

As of summer 2007, Benjamin is totally mesmerized--for better or worse--by the Caillou books and cartoon.

Benjamin ate fish (breaded, freezer-variety fish portions) for the first time on Thursday, September 13th, 2007, and loved it.

Benjamin became a big brother when his little brother Zachary was born on Sept 24th, 2007.

Zachary and Benjamin have the same number of letters in their full names.

Zachary rolled over from back to front for the first time ever on 02 January 2008. Mom watched it happen!

You can't curse around Benjamin anymore. He can and will repeat it. :( (starting in Fall 2007)

At some point during the week of Feb 4, 2008, Benjamin discovered how to turn doorknobs and open doors, all by himself.

Benjamin's first-ever bout of croup started 07 February 2008. He was completely hoarse and miserable.

As of Feb 27, 2008, Benjamin is just over two years old, and his little brother Zachary is just over five months old...and they still haven't met any relatives on Dad's side other than Dad himself.

Zachary started being able to sit up on his own for short periods in mid-January 2008.

Zachary ate his first solid food (rice cereal mixed with breastmilk) the evening of 28 February 2008.

Zachary's first tooth was discovered by his mother on 25 March 2008 while she was feeding him lunch. It's already cut and sticking out a decent amount, even. He bit down on the spoon and it didn't slide out. We had no idea he was even teething...such a mellow kid.

Zachary dances for the first time ever (that we've noticed...) today, 06 April 2008. He kept hitting buttons on a toy to start the music, and would bounce up and down and sway back and forth, smiling and laughing. He repeated his dance moves numerous times throughout the evening, even with different toys/music.

Zachary's first-tooth-ever of 25 March 2008 was quickly followed by his second-tooth-ever not even a week later. They're the two bottom-center teeth.

Zachary started his first-ever carrots on Monday, 07 April 2008.

Benjamin has started to sing songs! His first song, "Wheels on the Bus", was first heard during the latter half of March 2008. He does many of the hand movements as well as he sings.

Zachary's first-ever fruit--bananas--was served up with rice cereal for breakfast on Tuesday, April 15, 2008...and again at dinner (with green beans). He REALLY likes the bananas! This also means we completed the first run-through of vegetables yesterday. :)

Zachary was able to prop himself up on his hands and knees all by himself around 20 May 2008.

Zachary sat up from a laying-flat position for the first time on 26 May 2008. He made it look like he's been practicing it secretly for weeks.

Benjamin and Zachary moved into their new house on 23 May 2008. The move was stressful, mostly for Benjamin, but they adjusted pretty quickly after all the boxes and chaos started to dissipate.

Zachary officially bookended his top two center teeth with two new top teeth on either side around 22 May 2008.

Zachary switched from single-grain rice cereal to single-grain oat cereal around 20 May 2008. He likes it a lot better (and the consistency makes it easier for his parents to feed him with less mess, too).

Benjamin's (and Zachary's, hey) first-ever movie-theater experience was a matinee showing of "Horton Hears a Who" on 14 June 2008. He really enjoyed it, while Zachary (mostly) slept.

Zachary's started trying REALLY hard to pull to stand in early June 2008. At the same time, he was doing short 3-4 step crawls and a lot of army-crawling everywhere, getting better every day.

Zachary started crawling for real, comfortably, the week of 16 June 2008. Mom says it was 18 June 2008 exactly.

Zachary's first-ever haircut was 21 June 2008, given to him by his great-aunt Diane.

Zachary pulled to standing position for the first time--though only for a few seconds--during the week of 16 June 2008. He used a couple of as-yet-unpacked boxes to pull up on. He's been trying to pull up on the coffee table and couches, but after a week, still no luck (yet!).

Overnight, the night of Wednesday, 25 June 2008, Zachary woke up and needed held for a bit. Dad looked him in the eye, the two of them started cooing at each other, and when Dad puckered up to kiss him on the lips, Zachary leaned in, his little lips all puckered up as well, and they had a nice kiss. This was repeated two more times, and then again the following day with both Dad and Mom. Really cool. So deliberate and intentional, and so cool.

During the weekend of 28-29 June 2008, while camping north of the Wisconsin Dells, Zachary perfected the ability to pull to stand at will.

Zachary's first time camping was the weekend of 28-29 June 2008 at Castle Rock Park, north of the Wisconsin Dells. It was also Benjamin's first time camping where he was old enough to actually run around and play with the other kids/cousins/etc. Everyone had a great time!

During Spring of 2008, Zachary obtained the nickname(s) "Zachary Crackers" and "Mr. Crackers", while Benjamin became "Benjamin Bananas". Dad is apparently responsible. Their nicknames have since been spreading among members of their extended family...

Zachary's first real juice was pear juice, on Friday, 27 June 2008, diluted a little with some filtered water. Since it was delivered via a brand-new sippy cup, it was his first time ever using a sippy cup, too.

As of 26 June 2008, Zachary has been cleared by his pediatrician to eat any solid foods he wants, except for cow's milk (wait until 12 months old) and honey (risk of botulism). Infant food restrictions for fear of allergies are apparently no longer being recommended by doctors, as of mid-late 2007...

Benjamin rejected his first-ever toasted marshmallow during camping over the weekend of 28-29 June 2008, preferring to eat untoasted marshmallows instead. He did have a bite of a smore a few minutes later, which he liked.

-- Benjamin, on/around 07 July 2008, after passing a bit of gas. Said a few times since, too. Dad had previously referred to the sound as similar to that of a goose, hence Benjamin's reference.

Zachary started cruising along furniture during the week of 7 July 2008.

Yoda, our new kitten, joined our family on 13 July 2008. He's awesome.

-- Benjamin, starting in July 2008. No idea where it's from, but he has a toy giraffe in his hand when he comes up to you to ask the question. UPDATE: It's apparently from a 'Mickey Mouse Clubhouse' episode he's seen.

Mom tossed Zachary into Lake Michigan (not really) on 09 August 2008.

Zachary clapped his hands for his mother on 22 August 2008.

Benjamin started a one-day-a-week fall gymnastics class for toddlers on 09 September 2008 (which ends the end of November). His teacher is Miss Katie. He's been three times so far, and is having a blast. This, by the way, is trivia/quote entry number 100.

Benjamin has started going to Sunday School. His first day of class was 14 September 2008. There's singing, storytime, crafts... Good structure for him, and he really likes it.

Zachary crawled down the stairs from the upper level to our middle level of our home, for the first time ever, safely and entirely unassisted (though certainly supervised), on 01 October 2008. After some applause and cheering, he crawled right back up and came down again. What a ham!

Zachary had his first bout of roseola ("baby measles") in the middle of September 2008.

Benjamin and Dad had a just-the-two-of-'em movie afternoon on Sunday, 12 October 2008. The movie was WALL•E, and they both really enjoyed it...over a huge box of popcorn and giant lemonades.

Zachary took his first real, free-standing, independent steps on Friday, 17 October 2008 (yay!).

Zachary and Benjamin both went through a bout of hand-foot-mouth disease in October 2008. No idea which one had it first or where it came from. Scary seeing those blisters appear! :(

As of 19 November 2008, Zachary has broken the 5-foot distance barrier for walking between two points. He impressed us with short walks as long as 10-25 feet. Go, Zachary, go!

In early November 2008, Zachary has become skilled enough at climbing up and down our stairs at home that we no longer feel like we have to watch him all that closely around them. He climbs up well and pretty quickly, and scoots down on his belly just fine. He's not yet the speedy down-slider Benjamin was, but he's trying. ;)

On Sunday, 07 Dec 2008, Benjamin fearlessly jumped from the 4th stair down to the floor, several times, with pretty great landings. He was slightly less successful at his one jump from the 5th stair (he wasn't injured, he was just freaked out a little).

End of November 2008, Benjamin's first gymnastics classes ended, but he's signed up for the next session, so he'll be right back there next week, every week, until sometime in the spring. He loves it. Still too early to tell if he's actually GOOD at it, but he's enjoying himself a lot.

On the evening of Tuesday, 16 December 2008, Zachary broke his right forearm--both radius and ulna--after falling just over a foot to the floor from an armchair. As a result, his arm was wrapped in a lovely blue cast on 18 December 2008 for three weeks.

Benjamin drafted his first letter to Santa on December 24th, 2008. Dad did most--but not all--of the actual writing on paper. We left the letter with Santa's milk and cookies for Santa to read when he came to deliver presents. The letter contents are in a Dec 25th, 2008 post here.

The first time Benjamin ever rode a camel was at the Sheboygan (WI) County Fair on Sunday, Sept 6th, 2009. He really enjoyed it.

Zachary milestoned with the ability to leave the ground with both feet, jumping up, at some point during the week of 19 October 2009. Totally possible he was doing it sooner; gymnastics class really has him, uhh, hopping.

Zachary joined Benjamin in gymnastics classes in Fall 2009. He really, really loves it (as does Benjamin, still).

While learning to count, Benjamin often skipped over the number 4, while Zachary often skipped the 7.
