Benjamin survived his 4 days of peas. Last night, we started carrots!

Pediatricians recommend initially trying out new foods for 4-5 days to watch for any allergic reaction. Looks like he’s OK with peas. And he really loved the carrots last night. He’s a really good eater all-around, but it seems like the solid food is messing a little bit with the breastfeeding…

His Bumbo seat is working out pretty well as his highchair so far, too. He has definitely taken a long while to get used to it. We still don’t think he loves it, he at least tolerates it much, much better.

His diaper this morning is already reflecting the changeover to the carrots, too…

What’s after the carrots in a few days? Green beans! :)

  • Sleepin' and eatin' well, and the Fish Day Parade

We’ve been experimenting with a baby spoon with some frozen breast milk slush to see how well Ben adapts to and handles being spoon-fed. Turns out he does it pretty well. No spit-out, tongue-thrusting reflex kicking anything out. His first time a few days ago, he was like a pro, right away.

Well, with that success, we are proud to announce Yet Another First: Benjamin had rice cereal–his first solid food–today for the first time ever. One tablespoon with several tablespoons of breastmilk (making it really runny, but it thickened up more with time and more stirring). He pretty much ate it all, though he got a little on the table and a little more on his chin…

We’re a little nervous about how this change will affect what happens in his diapers… but a bit more seriously concerned about how it will affect his sleeping (he’s been back on a sleeping-all-night schedule the last three nights, yay!) and his height/weight.

So we’re really proud again. Big day with the giraffe, and then this. Whoo! :)

Port Washington, WI has their annual Fish Day celebration, which is all about (iirc) celebrating the fishing heritage of the town (it’s right on Lake Michigan). They have a great one-day celebration, with a pretty good (but candy-free…) parade. Today it was really super-hot. Too much sun. Ben was sweating and uncomfortable. We finally found some shade, and he played and generally enjoyed himself, sitting up on the blanket and watching everything and everyone. Once the parade was over, he slept during most of our drive to Gurnee Mills….all tuckered out, poor boy.

    And, as of today:

    • Weight: 15.0 lbs
    • Height: 25 1/4 inches

If anyone’s keeping track. ;) According to the charts we have, he’s right around the 50th percentile for both height and weight. At his two-month doc appt, he was around the 75th percentile for both.

There’s still two more weeks to go until we get in for his “4-month” peds appointment and…more shots!

We also put our first #3 diaper on him today. The packaging says 16 pounds for the low-end weight, but the #2’s haven’t really been great at containing his “activity”, so we thought it was time to move up. The #3s seem so BIG!

Our boy seemed to be in much better spirits overall today. He’s still got some issues, but the poo seems to be returning to its natural golden color, and he seems a lot more peppy. Maybe he’s getting over it already!

This is really the first time he’s been sick, so we’ve been a little bit nervous, not knowing what to expect or even what to do.

At the same time, though, we know he kinda needs to get sick and get some exposure to various germs and stuff so he develops some resistance. We don’t want a sickly kid later on that can’t handle what should be minor things. We don’t want to be parents that have no experience dealing with a sick kid, either.

Benjamin’s not feeling well. He’s apparently got diarrhea. Lovely green stuff. Mom got splattered with it tonight, even (Dad tried not to laugh).

His doctor says not to worry, keep an eye on his diapers, his temp, and if he’s vomiting (so far, he’s not).

Poor little guy’s not feeling well at all; could be a few rough days coming.

I overheard my Mommy and Daddy talking today about how I’ve not pooed in my diaper in a couple days. They were saying that my regular poos should be stopping now that I’m all of two whole months old, and I may be starting to poo only every two or three days.

What, I’m supposed to just HOLD it?  Crazy Mommy and Daddy!  Crazy I say!

I’m really happy that I’m still playing booty tuba, though… If I wasn’t farting, I’d probably explode!

I’m kinda scared to see what comes out when nothing has for two days! Cross your fingers with me!  Wait, I can’t cross my fingers yet… I can’t even get my thumb in my mouth with any consistency yet, either. Help!
